Scan MTG cards. Check the printing before the price.
Scanner Dex helps you identify Magic: The Gathering cards from a photo, review estimated-value information, and keep a record of your collection. Confirm the precise printing before you use any estimate.
How do I scan MTG cards and check the printing?
Use Scanner Dex on iPhone to scan a Magic card, then compare the suggested name, set symbol or code, collector number where present, and finish with your copy. Reprints can have different values. The estimate is a research aid, not a guaranteed sale price.
Free to download. Some scanning and advanced AI features require a subscription. See the in-app offer for current pricing, billing period, and trial eligibility.

How to scan a Magic card
- Place one card under even light with the full border visible. Avoid reflections from sleeves and foils.
- Scan it in the iPhone app, then compare the suggested name with the printed title and artwork.
- Check the expansion symbol or set code and collector number where present. Older cards may need an artwork and printing comparison.
- Confirm language, finish, and any special treatment before recording the card in your collection.
One card name can mean many different printings
Magic cards are frequently reprinted. A name match alone does not confirm the set, artwork, or finish of the copy in your hand. For example, two copies of the same spell can belong to different releases, while a foil and non-foil copy within one release may need separate price comparisons.
Build a record around the name, expansion, collector number, language, finish, quantity, and condition notes. For double-faced cards, inspect both faces when confirming the identity. A scan result is a starting point for that check, not a guarantee of the exact printing.
Checking MTG card value
Compare recent sales or relevant market references for the same printing and condition. Do not mix raw copies with professionally graded sales, or standard versions with special treatments. Check the date and currency of each comparison; an estimate is not a guaranteed sale price.
Scanner Dex's value information helps you organize your research. A single image cannot establish authenticity, every surface defect, or an official grade. Check valuable or unusual cards independently before a trade or sale.
Keep your Magic collection organized
Use collections to separate cards you own by a useful goal: a binder, a release you are collecting, or trade stock. Confirm quantities before buying duplicates. A collection record also makes it easier to distinguish similar printings when you revisit a card later.

MTG scanner questions
Can I scan Magic cards on this website?

This page covers card identification and collection organization. Do not assume it checks deck legality or tournament rules.
Does a scan prove that a card is genuine?
No. A likely card match does not authenticate the physical copy. Examine the card and seek specialist help when needed.
